I am not the rather more famous English singer by the same name. If you’re looking for information on him, you should try a different page.
Because of problems with spam, there's no direct link to my e-mail here. To send me e-mail, click on this link and enter my e-mail address manually. My address is “david.bowie” (note that there’s a dot between my names), followed by the at character (@), followed by “uaa.alaska.edu”. Thank you for your patience with this attempt to reduce the automated spam in my inbox.
Assistant Professor of Linguistics & English Language
University of Alaska Anchorage
Welcome to my homepage!
As it says above, I am a member of the faculty of the Department of English at the University of Alaska Anchorage. My research, broadly stated, focuses on the issues of how individuals manage to work together as coherent groups with little or no overt direction and what principles govern those actions, as well as how those individuals change within those groups as they age. To answer those questions, I look at linguistic variation. I’ve set up this site to give others access to information on my professional activities; you can use the links on the left side of the page or below to get to the various parts of the site. I’ve included a short summary of each page below to help you decide what link to follow.
- Home: This page.
- C.V.: My curriculum vitae.
- Classes: Links to information on the classes I’m currently teaching, as well as a description of some other classes I’ve taught.
- Papers: Links to papers I’ve written that I’ve been able to make available for download in various electronic formats.
- Links: Links to others’ pages of a more or less professional interest to me, dealing at least tenuously with sociolinguistics and dialectology.
