News sources

For sources of Mormon-oriented news, you could try:


	•	The Deseret News


	This newspaper is owned by the Mormon church and contains quite a bit of Mormon-oriented coverage, as might well be expected; it even includes a Saturday supplement devoted to the Mormon church.


	•	The Salt Lake Tribune


	As the Mormon church is based in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA, the Tribune often reports on Mormon-related items as local news; they're also one of the last major dailies in the USA to have a decent-sized religion section.


	•	KSL Radio & TV


	The KSL radio and TV stations are based in Salt Lake City, Utah, USA and owned by the Mormon church, and so their site sometimes contains Mormon-oriented items.


	•	The Daily Universe


	The Daily Universe is the campus newspaper at Brigham Young University, a college owned by the Mormon church, and therefore often contains Mormon-oriented news items.


	•	KBYU Radio & TV


	The KBYU radio and TV stations are based at Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah, USA; as the Mormon church owns the university, their site often contains Mormon-oriented news.


	•	The Logan Herald Journal


	This newspaper is in the same state as the headquarters of the Mormon church, and therefore often reports on Mormon-related items as local news.


	•	The Ogden Standard-Examiner


	This newspaper is in the same state as the headquarters of the Mormon church, and therefore often reports on Mormon-related items as local news.


	•	Ketav


	The Brigham Young University Department of Computer Science magazine, which sometimes contains Mormon-oriented material. (Includes archives.)


	•	Messenger (formerly Truth seeker)


	A magazine published by a fundamentalist (i.e., polygynous) Latter Day Saint Movement group.

Genealogy/family history

As many people know, Mormonism advocates research into one's family history. All that i'm putting here are links to pages with lots of links, since for me to try to set up a comprehensive list of pages dealing with genealogy would be mind-bogglingly daunting. These should be good for a start, though.

Please do not e-mail me with questions on the subject of genealogy; instead, read the following disclaimer:


	Disclaimer: Please note that i am not in any way an expert on genealogy, so i would most likely be unable to answer your questions on the subject. Also, in answer to an oft-repeated question, the Mormon church's genealogical archives are now in part on-line and searchable.

	This page has a clearly Mormon-oriented slant; the general-interest genealogy page it's attached to is quite impressive, as well.


	•	The Personal Ancestral File Review newsletter


	Personal Ancestral File is the geneaology program that the Mormon church itself produces; this page discusses that program, how to use it, and provides a source for various add-on programs for it.


	•	Everton geneological products


	This is actually a commercial site, but there are some free resources there, as well.

Humor archives

I have noticed that, when dealing with religious issues, people often get way too serious. Others, though, see topics like eternity and God and salvation and stuff as fertile ground for humor. Particularly since i am one of these people, i have created this section in my list of links to memorialize them.

Commercial sites

Important to include in this sort of collection are the commercial sites run by the following groups. I find it rather exciting to see sellers of Mormon-oriented items taking to the internet to provide places to find things that might be difficult for some of us to find otherwise.

	This is a cookie delivery service which delivers to students at various colleges in Utah and Idaho, USA (they have lately branched out into providing more services than just cookies).


	•	Deseret Book


	One of the best-known Mormon-oriented publishing companies out there; the site also contains a large amount of Mormon-oriented information and links.


	•	Emergency Essentials


	A source for camping/food storage items and 72-hour emergency kits.


	•	Everton


	A source for various geneaological supplies.


	•	Historical Calendar


	A source for a calendar featuring Mormon-oriented artwork.


	•	Kitchen Science


	A source for food storage and healthy eating items.


	•	Latter-day Creations


	Temple, baptismal, &c. clothing and accessories, along with other Mormon-oriented items.


	•	Latter-day Family Resources


	Primarily Mormon-oriented resources (mostly books, from my quick review of the site).


	•	Liahona Developmental Systems


	A company that sells Mormon-oriented items for speakers of many languages, particularly Spanish.


	•	MTC Cookie Delivery Service


	A service for, as its name states, delivering cookies to those currently in the Missionary Training Center in Provo, Utah, USA; they also run a cookie delivery service to anywhere in the world.


	•	Native Enterprises


	The source for a video depicting the temples in the South Pacific and the growth of the church there; they also sell other videos concerning Oceania.


	•	Novelty Ornaments by Plain Dynamics


	Makers of ornaments, including some Mormon-oriented ones.


	•	Organized World


	Makers of planners, organizers, scripture totes, &c.


	•	The Resort at Louis Lake


	A Mormon-owned resort marketing itself as, among other things, a family reunion site.


	•	SBF Publication Company


	Makers and sellers of Mormon-oriented software and board games, in particular stuff related to Boy Scouting.

And finally, a type of site that isn't really a commercial site per se, but that fills a commercial function — dating services/pen pal locators/person-to-person connection services. Be careful — remember that there are a few freaks out there (yes, there are Mormon freaks, too); LDS Singles Connection has a page detailing certain precautions to take.


	•	LDS MatchMaker


	A personals service for Mormons.


	•	LDS Friends Worldwide


	Not just a dating service — there are people listed here who are just looking for pen pals; this site is also available in Spanish.


	•	LDS Filipino Friendship Connection


	A site dedicated to hooking up Mormon Filipino women and Mormon men in other countries.


	•	LDS Singles Connection


	An electronic dating service for Mormons.


	•	LDS Travel Network


	Not a matchmaking service, this is a service for setting up Mormons staying in the homes of other Mormons — but some of the same precautions apply in this sort of a situation as in matchmaking.
